Black Caps Crush Pakistan in 1st Test at Hagley Oval

pakNew Delhi, Monday, November 21 – Pakistan are on tour of New Zealand for two Test matches. The first one began at Hagley Oval in Christchurch on November 17. New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first as objective was to restrict Pakistan at a score that can be chased without facing much trouble.

New Zealand Playing XI was captained by Kane Williamson. Those in his team were Jeet Raval, Ross Taylor, Henry Nicholls, Tom Latham, Colin de Grandhomme, BJ Watling, Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult and Todd Astle. Those on bench were James Neesham and Matt Henry.

At the same time, Pakistan squad was led by Misbah-ul-Haq. The players on his side were Sami Aslam, Asad Shafiq, Younis Khan, Babar Azam, Azhar Ali, Sarfraz Ahmed Rahat Ali, Mohammad Amir, Yasir Shah, Sohail Khan. At the same time, Sharjeel Khan, Imran Khan, Mohammad Rizwan, Wahab Riaz and Mohammad Nawaz were in extra. If scoring pattern of the venue is kept in mind then average first inning score is 314, while average second inning score is 281. Besides this, average third inning score is 304, whereas average fourth inning score is 138. Highest total on the ground is 505 by Australia vs. New Zealand. Lowest total is 133 in 55.5 overs by Pak vs. the home squad in the match that concluded lately. Highest chased is 201 runs by Australia vs. the Black Caps.

Sami Aslam lost his wicket to Southee at 19 runs, while Azhar Ali to de Grandhomme at 15 runs (4 x 1). Babar Azam was dismissed by de Grandhomme at a score of 7 (4 x 1). Younis Khan succumbed to same man when batting at 2 runs. Misbah-ul-Haq was dismissed by Boult at 31 runs (4 x 3). de Grandhomme bowled well and got wicket of Asad Shafiq at 16 runs, which included two 4s. Sarfraz Ahmed lost his wicket to Southee at 7 runs. Mohammad Amir was dismissed by Boult at 3 runs. Sohail Khan was sent back to the dressing room post scoring 9 runs. Yasir Shah was not out at 4 runs after Rahat Ali couldn’t read a delivery by de Grandhomme on a naught.

de Grandhomme’s six-wicket haul added to the trouble for Pakistan. New Zealand were all out at a score of 200, taking a modest lead that proved enough after the opponents failed to gain runs in pace once again. In Kiwi’s 1st innings, Tom Latham was lbw by Amir on a single. Jeet Raval was the highest scorer with 55 runs before losing wicket to Amir. Seven boundaries were highlights of his play. Kane Williamson lost wicket to Khan at a score of 4. Ross Taylor was dismissed by Rahat Ali on 11 runs. Henry Nicholls was lbw by Khan at 30 runs (4 x 4). Colin de Grandhomme had to go back to the dressing room post scoring 29 runs. BJ Watling’s contribution in the team’s total score was 18 runs. Todd Astle was out for a duck.

Tim Southee lost wicket to Amir at 22 runs (4 x 4).  Neil Wagner’s innings of 21 runs included three 4s and a six. Rahat Ali was the man to get his wicket. Trent Boult was not out at 3 runs. Pakistan second innings concluded at a score of 171 runs. At a time when it was required to pocket considerable runs, the visitors lost wickets in a quick span of time. Sohail Khan’s 40 runs, Azhar Ali’s 31 runs and Babar Azam’s 29 runs were not sufficient to bring Pakistan on track. When New Zealand came to chase the target, Tom Latham was dismissed by Amir at 9 runs. His wicket was seen as a major breakthrough. Kane Williamson played a significant knock of 61 runs (4 x 4 and 6 x 1). Azhar Ali got his wicket. Henry Nicholls was not out at zero, while Jeet Raval at 36 runs when target was achieved. The Black Caps won by eight wickets. Player of the Match award was given to Colin de Grandhomme.

With lead of 1-0 in 2-match Test series, New Zealand eye win in the next Test as well. Second game will start from November 25 at Seddon Park in Hamilton. Pakistan would want to mark a bounce back and fix issues that kept them away from tasting success.  The game will catch the eyes, keeping in mind Pakistan’s good show against West Indies in the recent past. New Zealand would certainly not see Pakistan weak at all despite displaying good show in the opening Test. The opponents are strong to put an early pressure on them and the home side knows it very well. All in all, excitement would go up when the two teams see each other in the next game. The action between these two cricket playing teams will unquestionably be interesting enough to make viewers curious what’s going to come next. As of now, the Black Caps enjoy some rest to regain energy and momentum for next match.
